Gangasagar Mela: Day and Night Ferry Service

January 13, 2026 by Santosh Sandilya Leave a Comment

The West Bengal state administration is considering keeping the ferry service running day and night during the Gangasagar Mela. However, it is to be noted that the service will depend on the daily weather and fog conditions.

Since last Sunday, transportation arrangements for the fair have been further strengthened across all three modes of transport: land, water, and air.

Reports claimed that thousands of extra buses, several special trains, and a large number of vessels and barges will be deployed on the waterways this time.

PWD officials claimed that 13 large barges are being deployed on the Kakdwip Lot-8 and Namkhana routes, each with a capacity of one thousand to two thousand five hundred passengers.

In addition, 45 modern vessels and more than 100 wooden launches will transport devotees to the Kachuberia jetty.

A total of 21 jetties (10 permanent and 11 temporary) will be operational.

All vessels and barges are being fitted with GPS trackers, which will be monitored from the Sagar Mela control room. Furthermore, carrying motorcycles on the vessels has been completely prohibited.
