The Election Commission is set to launch a portal for those living outside West Bengal.

Through this portal voters residing outside the state will be able to submit their necessary documents online to register or update their names in the electoral roll.
Millions of migrant workers and students residing outside the state were previously facing difficulties in getting their names added to or updated in the voter list. Returning to the state repeatedly and visiting the Booth Level Officer (BLO) or the election office was not practical for them.
It is being said that with the launch of the new portal, this process will become completely online and much simpler.
An official notification and guidelines regarding this portal will soon be released by the Election Commission. A helpline number and technical support will also be provided to ensure that voters residing in remote areas or abroad do not face any difficulties.
Who will be able to benefit from this portal?
- Those who reside outside West Bengal for employment purposes
- Those who are studying in other states or abroad
- Those whose names could not be included in the voter list due to old addresses or errors
- Those whose names, age, address, or other details require correction

Which documents will be accepted?
- Aadhaar Card
- Passport
- PAN Card
- Certificate issued by an educational institution
- Work certificate issued by the employer
- Rent agreement or residence proof
The Election Commission will also ensure that the verification of documents is conducted in a transparent and timely manner.
This new portal will also be linked to the ongoing SIR process of the electoral roll. The Commission aims to ensure that no genuine voter is deprived of their voting rights merely due to a change of residence or temporary migration.
The Commission believes that millions of workers from West Bengal work in various parts of the country, while a large number of students go outside the state for higher education.
The election process is considered incomplete without the participation of these groups. The new portal will strengthen democratic participation.
