Kolkata’s Police Commissioner (CP) Manoj Verma has informed that road accident-related deaths in the city have witnessed a decline. The improvement reflects enhanced traffic enforcement and road safety measures across the city, he claimed.

154 people lost their lives in road accidents in Kolkata in 2025, compared to 191 in the previous year, 2024.
Sharing his experiences on this occasion, Police Commissioner Manoj Verma, said that in 2007 and 2008, when he was serving as DC (Traffic), the number of fatalities in road accidents was approximately 400. Later, areas like Behala, Jadavpur, and Bhangar were incorporated into the Kolkata city limits.
Despite this expansion, according to recent figures, the number of deaths in road accidents last year decreased to 154, which is the lowest figure recorded to date.
(CP) Manoj Verma informed:
“New targets have been set to further reduce road accidents in the new year. The traffic police are working more actively than before to further decrease the number of accidents.”
