Holidays in the new year 2026? The West Bengal government has released a list of holidays in the state in 2026.

There will be holiday on the first day of the year. Also, there will be five holidays in January alone. Whereas in the month of October there are 12 holidays.
How many holidays will there be in total in new year 2026?
A press statement released by the state government confirmed that there will be a total of 51 holidays between List 1 and List 2 (holidays under the NI Act and state holidays). These include Netaji’s birth anniversary and Saraswati Puja on January 23 (Friday). Labor Day and Buddha Purnima also coincide on May 1 (Friday).
Therefore, despite the 51 holidays, only 49 days will actually be available.
Durga Puja holidays in 2026:
- October 10: Mahalaya
- October 15: Chaturthi
- October 16: Panchami
- October 17: Shashthi
- October 18: Saptami
- October 19: Ashtami
- October 20: Navami
- October 21: Dashami
There are also sectional holidays.
April 4, Saturday: Easter Saturday (for Christians)
June 30, Tuesday: Hul Day (for Indigenous peoples)
Which holidays will be ‘ruined’?
At least six holidays in the year 2026 will be lost because they fall on Sundays. These include Lakshmi Puja and Kali Puja.

- Durga Saptami: October 18, Sunday
- Lakshmi Puja: October 26, Sunday
- Kali Puja: November 8, Sunday
- Chhath Puja: November 15, Sunday
- Birsa Munda’s birth anniversary: November 15, Sunday
