November 26, 2025 by Pooja Mishra Leave a Comment

West Bengal has ranked number 2 in foreign tourist arrivals in the country as per India Tourism Data Compendium 2025.

Following the news Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday hailed it saying the state has emerged as one of India’s most preferred international destinations.

The Chief Minister said on X:

“Proud to share that West Bengal has emerged as one of the most favoured international tourist destinations in the country and has achieved another great milestone!!

In the recently released India Tourism Data Compendium 2025 by Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, West Bengal has attracted 2nd highest foreign tourist footfall in the country!”

Here is the X post by the CM.

Meanwhile, industrialist Harsha Goenka has given credit to mishti doi, Durga Puja and Tagore for the same.

His reaction via X post.

So Bengal is now India’s No. 2 magnet for foreign tourists Ahead of Gujarat and even Rajasthan! Can’t understand how and why?
Clearly the world has fallen for mishti doi, Durga Puja and Tagore more than we imagine. Can anyone explain?

Meanwhile, state BJP has reacted sharply on Mamata Banerjee’s X post.

So Bangladeshis who are escaping due to SIR, are tourists? https://t.co/ijgNvefzcs

On the other hand, netizens gave credit to Bangladeshis for the same reason.

It is probably tourists from Bangladesh. You can see the most popular ticketed monuments none of them are in West Bengal.
