November 27, 2025 by santosh.sandilya Leave a Comment

The tiger census in the Sundarbans began on Tuesday, as well as the forest depart has started to install cameras along various canals.

Tiger cameras have already been installed in different areas of the Sundarbans, including Matla, Raidighi, Ramganga, and Sajnekhali Bidya.

Work is underway to install 1484 cameras in various forests of the Sundarbans to take pictures of the Royal Bengal Tiger. These cameras will track the movements of the tigers all the time, covering an area of 4100 square kilometers.

The tiger census will be conducted by capturing camera images over a period of one month.

However, this time, not only the movement of the tigers, but also their food supply will be monitored. That is, the presence of other animals in the forest, including herbivores such as deer, or wild pigs, which are hunted and eaten by tigers, will be reviewed with these cameras.

This initiative is being taken for the first time. An app has also been developed by the Sundarbans Forest Department for this purpose. With the help of this, the forest department officials will be able to analyze the situation.

An official of the Sundarbans Tiger Reserve said that an effort will be made to see if there is enough tiger food in the Sundarbans forests. Further decisions will be made based on the information available at that time.

Meanwhile, today in a fresh incident Kultali was kept on alert after fresh tiger footprints spotted in the area.
