The Eastern Coalfields Limited has managed to rescue 12 trapped workers in the Pandaveswar mine accident that took place yesterday.
The rescued workers were trapped in the Kumordihi Colliery and now they have been taken to hospital for treatment. It has been reported that almost all the workers were in healty condition.
On this ocassion, Pandeshwar MLA Jitendra Tiwari said that “It was possible to contact those who were trapped below. Communication with them was good.”
Meanwhile, this incident has raised questions regarding safety protocols and mechanical maintenance at the mine.
Workers alleged that issues with the ‘duli’ (mine cage/hoist) occur frequently; there have even been instances where it has become stuck or the cables have snapped.
