The SIR has created an atmosphere of panic across the state, alleged West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday. The CM claimed that so far 39 people have died in the state due to the SIR scare.

She expressed concern over the situation and announced financial assistance of ₹2 lakh each to the families of the deceased. Talking to the journalists in Kolkata, she said that the state will also provide financial assistance to the sick.

There have been multiple allegations of suicide for fear of being deported. Reports of deaths due to cardiac arrest have also surfaced in the state due to SIR.
By attacking Central government, Mamata Banerjee said, “In Bihar, the BJP gave ₹10,000 before the elections, and after the elections, there is bulldozer rule.”
