KOLKATA: There is no alternative to the Kolkata Metro rail service to reach from this mandap to that mandap in less time. This time during Puja, millions of people have relied on Metro trains.
According to the reports, this year during Puja record passengers travelled via Metro trains. From Panchami to Dashami a total of 46.56 lakh passengers rode the metro trains, which all-time high. Last year, the number of passengers traveling during Puja was 41.15 lakh. In 2019, it was 45.61. This time, Puja broke that record.
Metro Rail authorities claimed that managing the crowd during Durga Puja is a massive challenge.
However, it was known in advance that the crowd would be relatively high on some days of Puja. And that’s why there were several meetings and a blueprint was made accordingly on how the crowd would be managed.
Additional staff were deployed at each metro station. Metro officials were in constant touch with them. In addition, adequate numbers of state police and RPF were deployed. Additional volunteers were also present.
