Kolkata Braces for Four More Days of Intense Cold Wave

January 7, 2026 by Santosh Sandilya Leave a Comment

There won’t be an immediate relief from cold wave in the City of Joy, predicted Alipore Met Office. On Tuesday, the city recorded a minimum temperature of 10.2°C, that was nearly 4 degrees below the seasonal normal.

According to the reports, the maximum temperature also plummeted to 18.4°C, causing cold day across Kolkata.

It has been said in the latest forecast that Birbhum and Purba Bardhaman are expected to experience extreme cold conditions further until end of this week.

During this period, the mercury in Kolkata is likely to touch the 9°C mark.

Districts like Cooch Behar, Alipurduar, and Jalpaiguri of the North Bengal are facing severe cold wave conditions. Alert for morning fogs have been issued in North Bengal, as well as South Bengal districts, including Hooghly, Nadia, and Birbhum.

Meteorologists suggest that while the bone-chilling cold will dominate the work week, the situation may begin to normalize starting Saturday.
