KOLKATA: The second Hooghly Bridge is closed for renovation. It has not opened yet. Due to this, traffic congestion is increasing. Several cars are parked on the bridge. Office commuters are suffering during office hours.
Cable car work is underway on Vidyasagar Bridge. Due to this, traffic will be closed till 9 am on Saturday, the administration said. Passengers started bringing their cars after 9 am today. But it was not opened yet. A long queue formed at the bridge entrance.
It is worth noting that on Thursday, Kolkata Police issued a notification stating that the Second Hooghly Bridge, also known as Vidyasagar Setu, will be closed for a part of the weekend, i.e. on October 11 and 12. Vehicles will not be allowed to use this bridge during the morning and afternoon hours on Saturday and Sunday.
The notification states that Vidyasagar Setu will be closed from 5 am to 9 am on Saturday, i.e. on October 11. And on Sunday, October 12, no vehicles will be allowed to use this bridge from 3 pm to 8 pm.
However, vehicles will be allowed to use a detour route. The police have informed which route the vehicles will use during this time.
