Nipah Virus Outbreak: High Level Meeting in North 24 Parganas

BARASAT/KOLKATA: A high-level meeting of health officials was held in the wake of suspected. Nipah Virus outbreak. Earlier reports said that two healthcare workers were infected by the Nipah Virus in Barasat in North 24 Parganas. Following the event, district health department has started preparations on war footing.

Dr. Samudra Sengupta, the District Chief Medical Health Officer held an important high-level meeting along with all the Block Medical Officers of Health and hospital superintendents.

In the above said meeting, Dr. Sengupta instructed to all the hospitals to immediately submit a detailed report of the existing status of the stock of masks, PPE kits and oxygen available along with them. Along with this, a list of medicines and equipment required to deal along with any emergency in the future has also been sought so that their supply can be ensured in time.

The main objective of the health department is to keep the treatment infrastructure ready for any challenge.

Meanwhile, around 35 colleagues of both the infected healthcare officials have been quarantined to prevent the spread of the transition.

Samples of all these colleagues have been sent to AIIMS, Kalyani for testing.

Attention to patients with associated symptoms

The administration is keeping a close watch on all Nipah virus suspect cases. All health workers have been explained in detail about the new guidelines issued by the state government.

Doctors and nurses have been specifically asked to monitor patients with symptoms of ‘acute encephalitis syndrome’ and ‘severe acute respiratory syndrome’. If any such patient comes forward, it will be mandatory to share the data of those who came in contact with him immediately.
